Journalist Mark Barber at the launch of Go Race Go FreestyleSnowsport England has launched GO RACE GO FREESTYLE, an extension of their national snowsports participation campaign GO SKI GO BOARD (www.goskigoboard.org.uk).

Following the success of GO SKI GO BOARD which saw over 10,000 people participate in one off ‘TRY’ ski or snowboard sessions or longer courses, GO RACE GO FREESTYLE sessions aim to capitalise on the buzz created by the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and give more people the chance to emulate the skills of their Olympic heroes.

Last winter GO SKI GO BOARD brought new people into snowsports, now as part of the campaign, GO RACE GO FREESTYLE sessions aim to help those that have caught the snowsports bug to continue on their snowsports journey by having the chance to try freestyle skiing or snowboarding or give ski racing a go.

Running at a network of England’s indoor and artificial slopes and snowsports clubs nationwide, GO RACE GO FREESTYLE sessions will come in a various forms; ‘TRY FREESTYLE’ taster sessions will give people the chance to hit the snowpark for the first time and ‘TRY RACE’ sessions gives the chance to try skiing through gates for the first time and experience the buzz of racing. ‘GO FREESTYLE’ sessions involve learning basic freestyle tricks and flying over ramps and rails with a freestyle coach. The ‘GO RACE’ level takes people through the basic and fundamental skills involved in Alpine ski racing from start to finish in a safe and friendly environment. ‘JUST RACE’ and ‘JUST FREESTYLE’ are sessions where skiers and snowboarders can regularly take part and immerse themselves in a snowsport lifestyle.

Tim Fawke, CEO of Snowsport England said: “Sochi 2014 brought snowsports to the attention of more people than ever before, particularly those inspired by the dynamism and excitement of ski racing or by the fantastic performances from Great Britain’s freestyle skiers and snowboarders. With GO RACE GO FREESTYLE sessions, we are giving people the opportunity to get a taste for another side of snowsports and for people who want to get even more involved, it becomes part of the pathway from grass roots to elite snowsports.”

The overall GO SKI GO BOARD campaign will continue to get more people into and back into snowsports, as well as into racing and freestyle, by offering value for money, all inclusive ski or snowboard sessions at slopes across England in varying levels – TRY, GET, GO and JUST. These sessions are suitable for both people new to the sport, or those who can already ski or snowboard.

GO SKI GO BOARD and GO RACE GO FREESTYLE sessions can be found on www.goskigoboard.org.uk.

For the second year running, the Tirol Tourist Board will support the campaign as GO SKI GO BOARD destination partner.  Tirol is home to 33 terrain parks across the region, with further information on the top resorts for freestylers can be found here. Tirol also plays host to the opening weekend of the Alpine World Cup when it comes to Solden on 24th and 25th October 2014. Holger Gassler, Tirol Tourist Board, says, “Freestyle has become more and more popular over recent years and we have seen a sharp rise interest in this fairly new sport across the region. It’s great that people can start out and practice their skills in England before heading to the snow parks of Tirol”. www.visittirol.co.uk
