ISCHGL ENDURO MOUNTAIN BIKING ‘OVERMOUNTAIN’ CHALLENGE 2014

Enduro mountain biking is the new craze sweeping Europe with the resort of Ischgl in Austria embracing it in full.  This exciting new sport has an exciting combination of uphill and downhill riding.  While the uphill part of the competition is not timed, tactics and brawn is needed to be in a good position for the fast and furious downhill battle.

ischgl enduro mountain Biking 2014Europe’s Enduro Mountain Biking elite will be converging on the Tirolean village of Ischgl next month for the second edition of the Ischgl Overmountain Challenge.

Enduro Mountain Biking is the newest craze in mountain biking, with the combination of up and downhill biking and obstacles creating an exciting challenge for both professional and leisure riders. Ischgl identified the trend as a perfect sport for its location, offering a 1200km network of varied and scenic mountain bike trails in the high alpine Silvretta Bike Arena.

The Ischgl Overmountain Challenge will be from 12-14 September and is being held with the support of bike manufacturer Cannondale and race organisers Trailsolutions. Last year’s event attracted 240 participants from 14 countries and is expected to be even bigger this year.  The entry fee is Euro 50 and registration is open at www.ischgl-overmountain.com until 6 September.

Said Race Manager Georg Grogger: “The enduro scene is growing in leaps and bounds. With the Overmountain Challenge, we are offering a brand new racing format here in Ischgl, which attracts the best trail mountain bikers to Tirol and thus also promises spectacular scenes for the audience.”

Last year, together with bike manufacturer Cannondale as well as race organisers from Trailsolutions, 240 participants from 14 countries answered the call to the Silvretta Bike Arena in 2013 to race each other on the scenic trails amidst the mountains of Tyrol. With this year’s edition, the young racing format will be further developed and expanded. In the still young enduro scene, the Ischgl Overmountain Challenge is considered a test run for a not yet existing official European Championships and organisers are expecting to draw a corresponding large number of entries, as race manager Georg Grogger confirms: “The enduro scene is growing in leaps and bounds. With the Overmountain Challenge, we are offering a brand new racing format here in Ischgl, which attracts the best trail mountain bikers to Tyrol and thus also promises spectacular scenes for the audience.”
