Snowboard Gear Review . . .

First impressions are this is a serious piece of kit! I can just imagine that the latest version of the Osprey Kode 22 was designed by a carefully assembled think tank, as the features and functions would be on any serious backcountry snowboarder or skiers wish list for a backpack.  Also, unlike most snowsport designed backpacks, snowboarders are well catered for and not just a token gesture with quick fit vertical and horizontal carrying positions.

Opsprey Kode 22 BackpackThe easy release buckles on most of the straps are a nice touch as the traditional type can be awkward with gloves.  Having said that, I do not understand why Osprey have kept to the traditional type on the straps that secure around the body!

Designed for those who obsessively seek fresh pow, the Kode 22 has a front quick access avalanche safety kit pocket where there are compartments for a first aid kit, shovel and handle.  It is easy accessed by placing the bag on its back and the pocket can be fully open wide.   A first aid kit pocket and a whistle on the strap completes the avalanche pack tick list.

Also, the bag has a front access compartment that is very handy.  For instance, if you are on a chairlift you can swivel the bag around to gain access without having to unstrap the waist belt.

Other features worth mentioning is a nifty pocket on the top where a net can be pulled out, stretched over a helmet and then secured via quick release clips. Also, a goggle storage pocket with scratch proof, microfleece lined material.

The dedicated ‘dry’ compartment at the back ensures clothes are kept separated and the padding on the back should be adequate enough to ensure any valuables stay in one place.

The Osprey Kode22 is ideal for the serious snowboarder but you do not have to surf the deep stuff like Xavier De La Rue to make use of the features.  It is a good all-rounder bag and a decent enough size without being over bearing.
